It was obviously Jack White that Seattleites came out to see last night at Neumos. He was performing as part of the Raconteurs, his side project to the White Stripes, and even I found it hard to tear my eyes away from such a notorious musician. But despite his fame - and so many people in the audience screaming "I love you Jack!" - he did a good job being "one of the band" and not overpowering the rest of the talented musicians on stage. In fact, he barely made eye contact with anyone in the crowd, sometimes even singing with his back to the audience. He and the Raconteurs gave a solid performance in support "Consolers of the Lonely."
Reverb reviews: "Seeing the Raconteurs from 25 feet away is like being slapped in the face with a hundred riffs and killing choruses. The wall of fuzz washed out much of the vocals and some of the intricate guitar work handed down by the leaders, Brendan "Joe Dirt" Benson, and the smug-faced White ... But shout choruses on tunes like "Hold Up," and radio-staples like "Steady As She Goes," were unmistakable, and satisfy both the band's desire to road-test new material, and the crowd's appetite for anything Jack White."
This show was really, really great. I found myself watching each of them equally, the crazy drummer, the interesting bass player, cool keyboardist, spot-lit Benson, and White.
The only downside was that it was insanely loud. I purchased ear plugs a few songs in and it was uncomfortably loud even with them in. They say "if it's too loud, your too old" but I just don't see why permanent hearing damage has to be part of the experience.
Oh, so this idiot is the reason Neumos had to block parking on both sides of pike street for the last 3 days? This is becoming a total pain the neck, they should not be allowed to block all this parking so tour buses can park there, can't they park their buses at wal-mart or something?
That's the best anwesr of all time! JMHO
