Several blogs today are chattering about Sirbrina Guerrero, a Seattle woman who says she and her girlfriend were hassled by Safeco security after they shared a kiss at a Mariners game. Sirbrina told KOMO News that a mother complained to a security guard, who then told them to stop smooching or leave - that they were violating a code of conduct. Yet Sirbrina, who was recently a contestant on an MTV reality show, says she spotted several heterosexual couples canoodling without consequence. And she says she only gave her girlfriend a peck (they were eating garlic fries). Says Dylan on Seattle Metblogs: "Clearly, the Mariners' priorities are wrong. I'd rather be explaining to my daughter why those two women are making out than why the M's spent $44M on Carlos Silva to throw batting practice fastballs."
This is absolutely unbelievable. Don't we have more important things to worry about in this world than two grown adults showing their affection in public!? I guarantee you that there were more than one heterosexual couple lightly kissing that day, or even (gasp) swearing. Safeco and their security department should be ashamed of themselves.
I have every intention of boycotting Safeco field until there is some sort of apology. I hope that somehow Safeco hears more voices than just these two ladies that what happened was out of line and should not be tolerated.
We need rules and regulations that protect people from deliberate physical and financial harm. We don't need rules of sexual behavior that are based upon some primitive religious myth. I am pretty tired of the jesus-cultists thinking that they are entitled to determine what marriage is for everyone else, who can have sex with whom, and who can kiss at a ballpark. I hope the two women involved sue Safeco Field and the Mariners organization and get a big pile of cash. I have been to the ballpark before and I can tell you that there are plenty of heterosexual couples smooching it up without fear of being ejected. If anything, it was the woman who complained who should have been tossed.
