A Seattleite apparently isn't just a person who just resides in, or within 10 miles of, Seattle. The top ranked list for Seattleite on Urban Dictionary, where users post their own slang definitions of words, had these amusing definitions:

1. Any person living in, or within ten miles of The city of Seattle, WA
2.Is easily agitated when tourist asks to see the original Starbucks, Microsoft or Kurt Cobain's house. True Seattleites do not care for these things.
3.Considers Seattle to be the best city on Earth.
4. Is a pretentious coffee snob due to the thousands of delicious coffee houses and roastaries that surround them.
5. Any person who knows not to visit Pike Place Market on a Saturday.
6. Any person who was disappointed by EMP (unlike the inbred hicks from across the country who come to visit it).
7. Anybody who knows that "eating dicks" means eating burgers.
8.Any person that hates it when Californians drive through Washington and cry about the rain and the cold.
9. Typically a city that is completely devoid of soccer moms.

I can think of quite a few more myself. Check out the other hilarious definitions or add some of your own.

I have lived in Seattle for more than 25 years (and, before than, grew up on a farm 75 miles away from Seattle, back when there were farms), and must respectfully and vehemently disagree with Vince on the umbrella issue.

A Seattleite never carries an umbrella; but if an umbrella is needed, a true Seattleite will retrieve one from the nearest lost and found box.

(Only Seattleite poseurs and newbies walk around in hooded Gore-Tex jackets.)

Umbrella? I don't need no stinkin' umbrella.

Born & raised in Seattle. Can't say we ever had an umbrella in our house.

A Seattleite is one who was BORN and RAISED in Seattle. Period. This person is much more courteous driver and stops for pedestrians in crosswalks.

True Seattleite or Washingtonian for that matter, has their roots on the Oregon Trail.

...not from SEA via LAX.

Oh, and we can prove it with our Historic Road Name signs.

Lived in the area forever, always within 20 miles, before they ruined Bellevue and Kirkland and before Northgate or Lynnwood existed. I tell people I'm from Seattle because everyone knows the name. No matter the "rules", I know I'm a Seattleite. And proud of it! Bill Gates and Howard Schultz notwithstanding.
