In another attempt to cope with high fuel costs, US Airways today announced it's eliminating free in-flight snacks. They're ditching the packets of salty peanuts and pretzels in coach for all domestic flights. With all the new airline fees being added this summer, the skies don't seem so friendly. Just last week American Airlines said it would begin charging fees for all checked baggage - a move more airlines are expected to follow. Travelers have to be getting fed up.

Why do we passengers have to be getting fed up? It isn't any secret that the airline industry is in trouble. We've all gotta buck up and just pay our share of what it costs. The plain and simple truth is that it just costs more to do anything now, drive to work, buy milk and yes, even to fly. If you're fed up, take a train or a bus I guess, otherwise, quit whining and open your wallet, sheesh.
We are all as individuals as well as a society to blame for this problem, we've been spending money like drunken sailors for the last 40 years, not it's time to pay the piper. If you're looking for someone to blame for our current economic struggles, might I suggest looking in the mirror.
Not giving out snacks is one of the best things an airline can do - I've never looked forward with anticipation to that foil bag of salty carbs. Take your own snack bars, buy a bottle of water at the concourse newstand and you're good to go - they can keep all their crap. On a long flight, buy a sandwich before boarding for later so you don't have to pay $5-7 for indigestible "food." Look at flying as an airborne Greyhound bus and you won't be disappointed.
I totally agree Steve. I just wanted to add one last thought. I think that the airlines are making a big mistake by doing the nickel and dime tactics, I think from a marketing perspective they'd be better off just raising ticket prices rather than charging you $5 here and $15 there. These fees are a marketing nightmare.
I have no problem with paying for food on the plane IF the food is decent! Or, let us bring our OWN food on the plane!
With all the nickel and diming going on, what is the point of even traveling in coach?!? I thought the whole point was to SAVE money.
Who is stopping you from bringing your own food on? I bring my own food all the time! You can bring your own sandwiches or any other food as long as it is not more than 3oz of liquid. Duh!
The liquid restriction applies while passing through security. Once inside the concourse you can buy a normal bottle of water or whatever and bring it on the plane.
I've never understood waiting for the cart to make its way down the aisle so I could have a snack. The snack I want is the one I bought and stashed in my bag. It always beats the airline's offerings.
Anyone remember that No Frills airline back in the 70s? People didn't mind it then if it saved them on the ticket. Why should they mind it now? Have we become THAT entitled?
