If you tried to bring up Amazon.com this morning, you probably got this message: "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable." The site crashed for roughly two hours, and details on what caused the outage were few. A spokesperson released this statement to the media: "Amazon's systems are very complex and on rare occasions, despite our best efforts, they may experience problems." In the meantime, blogs were buzzing about what caused the site to go down, and the price of shares. John Cook wrote: "With $14.8 billion in annual sales last year, Amazon has a lot to lose even during a short outage. By my calculation, they achieve sales of about $28,000 every minute."
P.S.: The Wall Street Journal reports on how Twitter users were all a flutter about the site being down.
