Puget Sound residents are urged to take public transportation this Thursday, June 19, for "National Dump the Pump Day." A local survey shows more than 520,000 passengers used buses, trains, ferries and vanpools to get around on weekdays in April - a record high. Now transit agencies in Western Washington want people who've never tried public transportation to find out how easy it is. "Dump the Pump Day is a time for people to make a statement about the choices they're willing to make," said Joyce Eleanor, CEO of Community Transit, in a press release.

Is Metro planning on adding extra busses? or at least put articulated busses on non-articulated routes?

otherwise the 19th is gonna suck.

This would be fine and dandy if it didn't take me 2 hours to get from home to work and another 2 hours to get from work to home. If I catch the bus, I have to wait for the little short bus to come to the stop near my home that takes me to the transit center. Then I have to wait another 20 minutes or so for the next bus that takes me to the transit center in the neighboring town. Then I have to wait for another local bus to come and drop me off a mile and a half away from my office. Another 20 minutes of walking and I'll finally be at work by starting time at 6am. I live only 7 miles from my office and it takes me 15 minutes to drive there. Guess which method I'll be using on the 19th.

I love the idea, however, the particular route that I take does not use articulated buses very often. In the mornings, this bus is jam-packed with people and standing room only. This idea won't be very productive if you can't fit more people on the buses. Hello.. If you want more ridership, do something about the buses.... I swear some problems are really very easy to resolve but government makes it impossible..

Can we make it a Dump the Pump and Bicycle too?

If you want more ridership on buses, trains, carpools, etc., then make it more accessible and less costly.

You need more buses for the routes, articulated if not.

You need more than one stop in Seattle for the train to be effective. Two or three stops would eliminate overcrowding on the local buses. More cars on the train would prevent over crowding, leaving standing room only on the train.

The carpool lane is a joke, really. On Hwy 167, if you pay money, a single occupant can use the lane. Double white lines keep out the lane changers? Not really. When carpoolers are doing the speed limit, because they can, and someone pulls in front of them doing 10, 20, 30 mph, accidents happen. Good idea, maybe, but not enforced strongly enough.

Traffic has been bad for a long time. And what is up with "light rail" from Boeing Field area to Sea Tac airport? What will that accomplish? Traffic will not be affected by that.
