Several of us here in the office were pondering the fate of Squatch, the Sonics' hairy, hyperactive, slam-dunking, lovable mascot. I'll probably miss him more than any other team player. For those who've always wondered who was behind the costume, the P-I caught up with Marc Taylor, the 33-year-old New Mexico native who's been loving his job as Squatch the past nine years. He shares how he landed the gig and life as the Sonics' mascot. Taylor is now following the team to Oklahoma City, though not likely as his furry incarnation. He doesn't know what the new team mascot will be, but a Yahoo! blogger had a few suggestions based on the potential names for OKC's NBA team. "I'm going to miss this place," Taylor says.

But we get to keep the Wheedle (on the Needle), right?

Good riddance. I always preferred the Weedle anyway. Whenever the Sonics return, so should a new Weedle.

The Weedle was lame. Squatch is a rare breed, a premier mascot and I will miss him. Hope we can get him back once his current contractual obligation has ended.
