The NBA apparently wasn't too pleased that KOCO-TV leaked word the Oklahoma City team formerly known as the Sonics was going to be named Thunder, blogs Yahoo! Sports. So they've registered five other team names just to keep everyone guessing. The six names trademarked so far: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshall, Thunder and Wind. "Also known as: Meh, Blah, Ha, Spell Check Please, Hmph and Ugh" writes the Yahoo! blogger. My thoughts exactly. And I thought Thunder was pretty lame. What do you think?
I think it should be the Oklahoma City Liar Thieves or maybe the Oklahoma City Perjurors. Wait..wait, they should call themselves the OKC Blight Upon Humanities. Honestly, I'm not nearly as grief-stricken as I thought I'd be. The NBA version of basketball and the way the league is run is not something I am a fan of. The finals were fun only because we were nostalgic for the 80's with Bird vs. Magic; back when the NBA rocked. Now, March Madness is where true basketball fans get their fix. Although the cancerous reach of the NBA has infected it as well. They should adopt the NFL rule of players having to complete their junior years before being eligible for the NBA.
Does anyone else find it ironic, given that we (Seattle) have the WNBA team named the Storm, that after taking OUR Sonics to OKC, the name Clay and his cronies chose was THUNDER? Um, hmmm... the Seattle Thunder (and) Storm... seriously folks, get some originality already.
