The Stranger recently reported on a very cool project occurring on Capitol Hill. As more shops are vacated and boarded up to make way for Light Rail, Sound Transit has invited Seattleites to fill the spaces with temporary art installations. State Farm Insurance, a shop called Makeovers and Jack in the Box are among the spots that have been beautified as part of the project. A cartoon group called Friends of the Nib encircled Jack in the Box with vinyl banners, with each artist contributing a panel. But this weekend someone had to go and ruin a good thing. Apparently they took a razor and sliced away a panel that featured a drawing of a jazz trio. The artist tells the SLOG: "the missing vinyl panel of my artwork is hanging in some garage or dorm or in a dumpster somewhere. The work was supposed to be up for several months, and now no one will see it." The theft has prompted a discussion whether artists are asking for trouble by leaving their art outside. Says one commenter on SLOG: "Somebody hung cool artwork on a condemned building behind a chain-link fence and got surprised when it was taken?"
There are still a bunch of angry monorail nuts crushing sour grapes up on The Hill. Apparently their jihad against ironic jet art was not enough...
