Baristas serving coffee in bikinis and pasties just got too steamy for officials in Belfair. After receiving numerous complaints about the ladies at Espresso Gone Wild, the Mason County Board of Commissioners ruled they were "erotic entertainers" and would have to cover up since the coffee stand was not zoned for erotic entertainment. Just two weeks ago, Espresso Gone Wild advertised on Craigslist, blogs Seattle Metblogs, looking for people who were "reliable, energetic, upbeat, positive, honest, outgoing, dedicated and willing ot go the extra mile for the customer."
Narrow-minded prudery...
Grow up, people.
I have to admit that I haven't read too deep into these stories but I've overheard them on the news in my apartment while doing laundry, dishes, etc.
Is it just me or are people complaining too much? I don't have the courage to wear a bikini in public but kudos to girls that do! If you can wear a bikini to a public pool, a beach or any other public place (I'm sure you can even go to a grocery store in one) then why can't people wear them as a uniform when they sell coffee? If you have a problem with it - don't support the business! It's a creative way to make money and although I wish men in general could appreciate a woman more for her inner beauty than her outer beauty - it's ultimately the employee's choice whether to work at a place where they'll be oogled or not. It's not like the women that work there feel like they're being taken advantage of.
People need to find someone else to whine about. Unless there is actual nudity or the women are coming out of their little coffee shacks to flash people - I don't see what the problem is.
I couldn't have said it better myself, katy. Well done.
The way I see it is The Baristas aren't that bad, they are covered, it's not "erotic entertainment" that is a bunch of bull. I go to them and they are friendly women trying to earn money. It's a way to make good money at least tips, without actually being a stripper and worse. The women are down to earth, and cool. For the ones that don't like it, or think it's wrong, DONT GO THERE THEN! Duh! It's not that hard to avoid. They make great coffee, and are friendly people. Plus it's not like they are wearing nothing, or are topless, most of the places they are wearing binkini's, so freakin what. Once again I say if you don't like the way they run busniess, then dont freakin go!!!! It's that easy!
But don't ruin it for other people, just because you want things your way!
Can someone please explain to me how putting little stickers over your nipples and exposing the rest of your chest is covered? Maybe that's just me...
And a lot of these places you can see them from the street. Imagine all the questions kids will have after the school bus passes the new coffee stand on the usual route home.
I'm with you, A. Bikinis are fine, I have no problem there, as others have said, you see bikinis in public on every beach in town. Pasties and thongs are another matter, Belfair is appropriate in designating places where the girls "dress" in pasties and thongs as "adult entertainment" and making them adhere to the same rules as strip clubs do. I hope every city in the Puget Sound does the same.
At the very least they should be required to make sure there are no windows large enough, or low enough, for a casual passer by to look into, and that they have some sort of signage indicating that there is near-nudity, so that noone unwittingly goes in there.
Yes, people don't have to take their business to these places, but if you are a first time patron and don't know what you are getting into, how would you know?
And God help these girls if they splash 200 degree water on themselves. I should say "when" because eventually, it will happen. And when it does, watch the lawsuits fly!
I think its absoulutly ridicculous that what these girls do is considered "adult entertainment" to the city of Belfair, or any other. Adult entertainment is a strip club, or a pornograhphic store. In a strip club, women/men are completly nude. This is not the case for these baristas. I do agree that pasties are overboard, but bikinis and thongs are no big deal. You see those at the beach every sunny day around here, so why cant they wear them while working. As far as getting burnt by hot water, these girls are aware of the risks, they took the job didnt they? I dont think you can sue your employer for voulantaraly doing a job that has dangers. Common sense people, use it!
Bikinis BELONG on a beach or at the pool! It is just common sense as well as decency to wear appropriate clothing at the appropriate times. Although getting burn is a hazard of the job, we as a state will end up paying for the injuries through L&I, I for one do not want to pay for plastic surgery in a private area that would not have occured had an apron or other attire of been worn.
I have no issue with bikinis. It's not something I would ever do, but it's not obscene. My issue is with the pasties. Strip clubs are "adult entertainment" because of what the girls aren't wearing. Yes the erotic dancing is a part of it, but that's not the major reason. I don't understand why there's an age restriction to see a girl standing on a stage wearing nothing, but not to see a girl making coffee wearing nothing. A 13 year old kid isn't allowed to enter a strip club but can wander down the street after school see the exact same thing.
On another note, I am surprised there aren't any health regulations in place to stop this. I'm not saying that these girls are dirty or diseased or anything, so please don't think I'm trying to start that debate. But restaurants and other food/beverage establisments have to abide by certain health codes (clean kitchen, hair nets, etc.), and I'm surprised coffee stands don't. I mean, can you imagine if a health inspector walked into a restaurant kitchen and saw a half naked chef of any gender? That place would be shutdown in seconds!
I forgot one more thing. A lot of these girls don't realize what they are getting into. I know several cops who have been called to these stands. On arrival they have found out that the barista called 911 because a customer took a picture of them in their pasties. Then they get all upset when they find out there's nothing the police can do about it. Really, what did they think would happen?
Since this posting relates to bikini clad baristas, I'd like to plug:
