A Bellevue resident and loyal Washington State University sports fan isn't too thrilled about the University of Washington's attempts to use state public funds to remodel Husky Stadium, blogs School Zone, so he's launched a campaign to force the UW to privately fund the project. According to Cougfan.com, Mike Bernard and group of a like-minded WSU graduates have started an email campaign to "mobilize concerned citizens against the Dawgs' $150 million money grab." Bernard writes: "College athletics -- particularly in the Pac-10 -- is incredibly competitive. Great facilities are necessary to stay in the game. We can't let the UW gain an unfair advantage by pilfering millions of our state tax dollars to build an even grander monument to athletic ineptitude on Lake Washington. The State has better things to do with our money."
What about 150Mil of public money for a new Cougars basketball arena. What about public money for Seattle U's arena for their return to D-1 basketball. What about public money for ITT Tech to venture into the sporting arena. How about public money for the Sonics new arena....oh wait, nevermind on that last one.
How about public money to pay off the state deficit that Christine "rat face" Gregoire has racked up...
Public money for Husky Stadium, gimme' a break.
Maybe the 'Dawgs' should raise ticket prices, school fees (like WSU did to build the new facilities it has - which students voted in favor of back in 98) and ask some of their 'rich' alumni...oh, wait - that is right...it is only cool to be a UW fan when UW is winning!
That is why being a COUG is something a DAWG would never understand.
Put the money back UW...it is not yours.
$150 mil for the huskies? Pathetic. That money should have been spent on Key Arena so we didn't lose our PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM. The additions/remodel at Martin Stadium in Pullman probably didn't get $150 mil from the public (I don't know that for sure but I highly doubt it). The Huskies need to start winning some games before they can take public money which can be used for a million better things. Just like Clay Bennett complaining about Key Arena... win some games before you can complain. Once you start to win, ticket sales and the money coming into the city and Sonics organization will increase and guess what? The public might want to put some money into you. Also, I am pretty sure the UW alumni can rally up $150 mil, the university has the most money in the state for colleges.
And besides all that... The Huskies suck, the Cougs have dominated them in the two major sports for the past 5 years now. Even with better recruits, better location, and more money. But whatever you guys need to help you out...
I'm sick of University sports asking for public money for renovations . How much money does the UW take in annually with there sports anyway ? Here's a thought how about stop giving Scholarships to non U.S Citizens and using that money for renovations or actually giving those scholar ships to U.S CITIZEN'S .It's not like I can go overseas and get a full ride at there Universities . Maybe then I would be more supportive in giving out my hard earn money .At this point I have no interest in watching U.W Sports or dishing out more money in public taxes .
Pathetic??? These comments are pathetic. CMO you are a joke and obviously not a real sports fan. You're the same Mariner fan who loves to bring the family to Safeco even though you voted against it. Prices did go up for Husky tickets. Our rich Alum have given money and will continue. How much money does the UW bring to the city of Seattle? How many guests come from out of town to watch the Husky Football?? Where do they stay? Do they rent cars? We should probably get rid of the Huskies like we did the Sonics. Jason, you did get one thing correct, Christine is a rat face. DINO ROSSI for Governor!!!
Fred should stop molesting squirrels and go back to Pullman where (were? weir?) he can continue to live his glory days there (their?) beer bonging outside the Delta Upsilon frat house. Gosh Engrish is tough.
