Tonight is one of the last chances for locals to weigh in on the future of tolling on the 520 bridge. The 520 Tolling Implementation Committee has been gathering public comment at a series of public hearings, and the last one is from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at the Mercer Island Community Center. Officials say the bridge needs to be replaced, and they're considering tolls as a way to pay for it. On Tuesday the City Council revealed its recommendation, calling for tolling both I-90 and 520 starting in 2010. Other proposals on the table call for tolling to start as late as 2016. If you miss tonight's meeting the committee will accept comment via e-mail until September. And you can learn more at build520.org.
