PhinneyWood reports a case of raccoons attacking a cat in the Phinney-Greenwood area. Raccoons are pretty common sight in Ballard. Unfortunately, they're smart, mean and unintimidated by humans. Raccoons regularly cruised the walkways at the Lock Vista Apartments (that is, before management tore out many trees and bushes), and a bunch of them have been spotted at the old Denny's site. But it seems they're getting bolder. My Ballard said one raccoon found its way into their kitchen, while another varmint squeezed its way through a neighbor's cat door. One resident blogs her cat was missing a leg as a result of raccoons. So best to secure any open pet doors out there, and keep tabs on your outdoor small pets.
