CNN sending 'new breed' of journalist to Seattle Bookmark and Share

CNN has just announced plans to add reporters in 10 U.S. cities, including Seattle. In addition to general assignment reporters, they're employing "all-platform journalists" who will contribute to both TV and online on a more grassroots level, apparently filing stories on laptops and PDAs. They may work from home, colleges or affiliate stations. The New York Times writes: "a new breed of reporter, sometimes called a 'one-man band,' has become the new norm. Though the style of reporting has existed for years, it is being adopted more widely as these reporters act as their own producer, cameraman and editor, and sometimes even transmit live video." Other cities that are part of the expansion include Vegas, Orlando, Denver, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Raleigh-Durham, and Columbus.
