Folks are weighing in on the new breakfast options Starbucks launched today as part of an effort to provide more nutritious products. The company promises the items contain no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors or sweeteners, and instead are packed with whole grains and real fruit. The new menu includes oatmeal, a chewy fruit and nut bar (250 calories), an apple bran muffin (330 calories) and a "power protein plate" that includes a whole wheat bagel and peanut butter, a hard boiled egg and fruit. Says one commenter on the Starbucks Gossip blog: "Best quote from a customer yesterday when we were discussing the new breakfast options. 'Oatmeal? But I have oatmeal at home.'" Sure, but I like the idea of having choices besides donuts and gigantic scones. Those hot breakfast sandwiches were good - but not necessarily good for you.
