The Woodland Park Zoo is caring for roughly 100 newly-hatched Western Pond Turtles. The little guys, which were on the verge of extinction in Washington in 1990, are about the size of a quarter. They were collected from sites in Pierce County and the Columbia River Gorge and brought to the zoo to increase their chances of survival. Check out raw video of the hatching turtles here.
This is awesome, I have a Western Painted turtle named The General and he rocks. I got him from Iowa and he lives in our apartment in a really cool aquatic turtle tank. In just over one year, he has quadrupled in size to about the size of a baseball.
Great Storey,
