Sign up now for a free public tour of the Alaskan Way Viaduct when it's closed to traffic for one of its safety inspections on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Alaskan Way Viaduct and Seawall Replacement Program is hosting 45-minute walking tour on that day from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn more about Seattle waterfront history, viaduct monitoring and inspections, construction that's already started, and upcoming work to replace the structure. Speaking of, there's eight designs being floated, including this latest one being touted by House Speaker Frank Chopp, which is unofficially known as "The Choppway." As most people know, the current viaduct at risk of collapsing in the next big earthquake - always a cheery thought when you're driving on it. RSVPs are required. Please send an e-mail to viaduct@wsdot.wa.gov, or call 1-888-AWV-LINE.
