After many months of searching, the University of Washington has finally chosen a new school anthem for the purple and gold: "Rise Up With Pride for Washington," written by UW senior, Catherine Henderson, a guitar-playing grandmother who has her own band. Henderson said she was inspired by UW Suzallo Library's neo-Gothic-style reading room. "Reading that sort of high-caliber literature, all those things aligned in just the right way, [and it was] the perfect storm," she told the Times. The anthem debuted last Friday at a UW fundraising gala and will be unveiled to the public at the UW vs. ASU football game on November 8th. (Via Seattlest)
Finally!! Thank you, Catherine!! Well, I'm assuming the new anthem is a lot more singable -- and memorable -- than the one I had when I got my UW degrees in '88, '90, and 2002. My first college childhood memories are of the University of Michigan anthem, my father's alma mater, which I can still break into song with. Perhaps now the children of UW students and alums will enjoy the new UW anthem as much as I still do with that of the Michigan Wolverines. Kathy Ewing, proud UW graduate
Reason #98683862 why WSU is better than UW.....We already have one and actually know the words.
GO COUGS
UW already has one Todd, but nobody knows the words because it is ancient and older than your university, this is merely an updated version. Most know the words to Bow Down to Washington, but that is a fight song.
