This sure seems like a lot of work for a little change: Six whole electronic parking stations underneath the viaduct were stolen this past past week. The determined thieves apparently cut the meters from bolts cemented in the ground and then hoisted the stations out with a truck. Police were alerted when sensors inside the machines indicted they'd been tempered with. Despite all that manual labor, police believe the crooks didn't get much change nor any sensitive financial information - just six meters worth about $42,000. Perhaps its in protest of the parking rate hikes to come. The pay stations were reportedly taken from the 300 block of Alaskan Way all the way up to the 1200 block of Alaskan Way South and Pike Street. Police are stepping up patrols under the viaduct and expect to replace the parking stations by next week. (Via Q13.com)
