Washington Sen. Patty Murray could be in line for a promotion, reports the AP. Following Tuesday's election that expanded the Democratic majority in the Senate, Murray could end up chairing the Veterans' Affairs Committee if Democratic leaders demote Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman. Lieberman, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, chairs the Homeland Security Committee. But he could be stripped of the title by Democrats angry at his support of Republican John McCain in the presidential race. The Homeland gavel could then go to Sen. Daniel Akaka, of Hawaii, who would leave the top job at Veterans' Affairs. Democrat Jay Rockefeller, of West Virginia, is expected to pass up the post and let it go to Murray.
