The days of free or "cheap" parking in Seattle may soon be numbered. A new proposal by the Seattle City Council would raise the hourly parking rate by a dollar, from $1.50 to $2.50, in downtown Seattle and surrounding neighborhoods, and 50 to 75 cents in other neighborhood. Free parking in Fremont, upper Queen Anne and parts of West Seattle could also come to an end. The proposed hike would raise $13 million of the city's $19 million budget shortfall, but would it hurt or help downtown businesses?

I only have one question.... why don't they stop the free parking at meters for disabled parkers?

Most of the disabled parkers are able bodied persons taking advantage of the free parking all day.

My understanding of disabled parking is convenience for disabled persons. Not people who park, hang their plackard, then walk a couple blocks to work!!!!!!

Just imagine the revenue they could generate if everyone had to pay the meters?????
