If getting in touch with your inner singer/songwriter is on your new year's resolutions, you may want to check out Microsoft's new product Songsmith. The program analyzes any tune a person sings into a computer, then creates a song, adding a virtual band in the background. The program allows even a novice to crank out a tune. The finished tracks aren't meant to be polished professional songs, co-developer Dan Morris (who plays in a 1980s cover band) tells TechFlash, but more advanced musicians might also find Songsmith useful to make demo tracks for bandmates.
