On-street bike parking is coming to a few Seattle neighborhoods next month, blogs Capitol Hill Seattle. Seattle DOT says they're replacing one or two motor vehicle parking spaces with on-street bike parking, complete with bicycle racks and surrounded by a raised curb. Each lot accomodates eight bikes and spaces should be ready by mid-February. Installation on the first three locations - two on Capitol Hill and one in Greenwood - starts next week, but the city says the goal is to have one or two in all neighborhoods. The "maiden" lots will be at the following locations:
● Mid block of Broadway E between E Harrison Street and E Republican Street (by Broadway Market)
● At the corner of 12th Avenue and E Spring Street (by Stumptown Coffee Roasters and Café Presse)
● At the corner of Woodlawn Avenue NE and NE 70th Street (by the Greenlake Condominium)

That's great for bicyclists, not to mention the environment. I'm glad the city is encouraging bicycling over driving (even if they are doing it in a very subtle way).
