Ken Griffey Jr. has finally made up his mind - he's agreed to return to the Mariners. The 39-year-old star's contract is for one year, and believed to be worth $2 million in base salary. Sports blogs are all over this. Check out the Seattle Times Mariners blog, and the U.S.S. Mariner.
Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!!! Welcome home Jr.!!!
JR's back.... yeahhh!!... hopefully Jr's return will give Mariners baseball the boost it needs... I for one, will welcome Jr with open arms...He is one of the Mariners that got me started loving the game over 10 years ago... WELCOME HOME KEN !!!!
Jr epitomizes all that's wrong with professional sports. The whole time he was here before he whined about how the fans didn't appreciate him. Between him and A-Rod it was all about money. And when he got the chance to move to the league with smaller parks, he jumped at it. His dream was to set the home-run record and he wasn't going to get it in the big parks of this league. He's never really performed to expectations where he's been, so he's coming back here to underachieve. I find it sad that baseball fans think this is a good thing.
What happens when Griffey sprangs an ankle 40 games into the season, and sits out the rest of the year. Will he still get his 2 million dollars?
Bruce - If you'll recall Griffey went to Cinci for less money than the M's offereed him ("all about money"). Griffey has never lied nor taken steroids so using his name in the same sentence as A-Roid is way off base and makes it pretty easy to ignore every other point in your comment.
The Mariners need get players that can help them win games. They can't do that with a aging Griffey. I think it's all about ticket sales!
Who cares
I thought we hated Jr? What's next, is Shawn Kemp coming back to play for the Sonics? Oh wait...I mean the OKC thunder?
Wow, thatÂ’s a really cvleer way of thinking about it!
