The rumors are true. Starbucks is indeed set to launch its own brand of instant coffee. The Seattle Times has posted a copy of a memo sent out to Starbucks employees today. It reads: "We have been working on this project for over 20 years, and have a patent pending on the technology that enables us to absolutely replicate the taste of Starbucks coffee in an instant form. And as Howard has always said, 'The proof is in the cup.'"
No, I don't drink much coffee and when I do it's a blended mocha chiller, usually homemade.
I may try it out of curiosity, but I'm not really a fan of instant coffee. I can't see it becoming a regular habit. I prefer fresh-brewed, and while I have read that the new instant coffee is supposed to taste exactly like fresh-brewed, I'm skeptical.
i may use it for cooking or infusing vodka, but for straight-up drinking, oh no.
NEVER
No instant coffee in our house. We'll stick with fresh-roasted beans from Grounds for Change.
What's Grounds For Change?
www.groundsforchange.com - it's local (Poulsbo)and organic and fair trade. You can order online; it's shipped to you after it's fresh-roasted, usually on your doorstep in a couple of days. Wonderful coffee!
Cool - thanks! I'll check it out..
I prefer fresh coffee to instant. However, I do enjoy the Taster's Choice brand if given a choice of instant coffees.
In Malaysia and Hong Kong, they have been selling instant coffee for years and years, individually packaged for 1 cup use. There is a wide selection, including instant coffee with gingseng, instant coffee with lavender flower buds. Most of these will include cream and sugar already added, similar to the Tim Horton's double-double concept.
Silly Starbucks. When will they finally realize that their brand is diluted, their product is sub par, and there is an ARMY of new coffee houses out there waiting to take up the slack.
They have lost their way, and are rapidly on their way to becoming another food service conglomerate like Marriot, Sisco, and FSA. They have truly descended to their rightful place as the McDonald's of coffee.
Aside from that, I like many people would rather switch to drinking tea, than give that Sonic Selling SOB another dollar.
I tried it the other day: a side by side comparison of Via and their brewed coffee of the day. The Via was wretched! I also tried both over ice (the way I prefer my coffee during the summer in Lubbock, Texas). Via was even more wretched over ice. I doubt it is possible to make an instant coffee that actually tastes like brewed product.
