No news is not good news for the Eastside

| | Comments (0)

I recently read an article by Knute Berger on >The Seattle Times' suburban retreat and I found myself nodding in agreement on how the Eastside has seen its newspaper coverage dwindle over the years. Yes, I am a transplant from another state but when I arrived on the scene I immediately subscribed to the Journal American as well as The Seattle Times. I wanted to know more about my side of "the lake" than what was covered by that big Seattle paper. I felt the voice of the eastside was being diminished over the years as the JA, and its' subsequent versions, struggled more and more and then failed to survive.
Now, The Times is closing its' Eastside bureau. I hope Berger is correct and that community journalism will fill the news and information vacuum that's been left behind.
